Gina Saputo - Dr. Feelgood (George Kahn Jazz & Blues Revue)
There was never a better soul or R&B singer than Aretha Franklin,
in my opinion. Her feel, her natural delivery, her range and the purity
of her sound were all unbeatable. She was not just a singer - she was a
songwriter, pianist, and civil rights activist. Franklin began her
career as a child singing gospel at New Bethel Baptist Church in
Detroit, Michigan, where her father C. L. Franklin was minister. At the
age of 18, she embarked on a secular musical career as a recording
artist for Columbia Records. While Franklin's career did not immediately
flourish, she found acclaim and commercial success at the age of 24
after signing with Atlantic Records in 1966. Hit songs such as "Respect", "Chain of Fools", "Think", "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman", "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)", and "I Say a Little Prayer", propelled her past her musical peers. By the end of the 1960s, Aretha Franklin had come to be known as "The Queen of Soul".
On Thursday August 1, the George Kahn Jazz & Blues Revue will reveal their new "TRIBUTE TO ARETHA"
show at the Culver City Summer Music Festival. The outdoor concert is
in front of Culver CIty Hall and is FREE. Doors open at 6:00 PM, and the
music starts at 7:00 PM.
The Jazz & Blues Revue is an 8-piece band featuring three fabulous female singers: Gina Saputo, Courtney Lemmon and Natalie Wachen. Here is a sample of what you will hear next Thursday: Gina Saputo killin' it with Aretha's "Dr. Feelgood".
