4/27/20 GOING BAROQUE!

George Kahn Quartet - Going Baroque
"Third Stream Music" is a term coined by Gunther Schuller, in a lecture at Brandeis University in 1957, for a type of music which, through improvisation or written composition or both, synthesizes the essential characteristics and techniques of contemporary Western art music and other musical traditions.

From 1967-1977, Schuller served as President of the New England Conservatory where he formalized NEC’s commitment to jazz by establishing the first degree-granting jazz program at a major classical conservatory in 1969. By then there were many jazz artists experimenting with this idea, including Claude Bolling, Ran Blake, George Russell, Roger Kellaway and John Lewis and the Modern Jazz Quartet.

The third single from the upcoming George Kahn Quartet album is a tribute to the Modern Jazz Quartet. It is appropriately titled "GOING BAROQUE", but it was named way before 24 million Americans filed for unemployment. It is a 16 bar down-home lazy blues with a 16-bar fugue to kick things off. Enjoy!
